Portsmouth, RI - Manuel A. Alvernas, 64, of 84 Flint Corn Road, Portsmouth, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Jean Rounds Alvernas. Born in Middletown, RI, on October 15, 1940, he was the son of the late Francis and Mary Avilla Alvernas. Mr. Alvernas worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Local Union #57 of Providence. He had worked throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Mr. Alvernas was a avid Nascar fan. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Manuel ?Buddy? Alvernas Jr. of Middletown, RI, two daughters Julie Alvernas of Middletown, RI, and Lisa Andrade of Portsmouth, RI, two brothers Edward Alvernaz of Middletown, RI, and Anthony Alvernas of Newport, RI, five sisters Rose Alvernas of Middletown, RI, Gloria Alvernaz of Middletown, RI, Marion Venna of Wollaston, MA, Mary Evans of TX, and Alice Young of NC, and a grandson Eric Andrade of Portsmouth, RI and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Alvernas and Francis Alvernas.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at 7:30 PM in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
