Manuel Alves

Manuel Alves, age 80, of Middletown died Friday, October 30, 2015 at Newport Hospital.Mr. Alves was born November 12, 1934 in Madeira, Portugal. He was the son of the late Joo and the late Maria Rodrigues Alves. He was the husband of Maria Da Paixo (Camara) Alves for nearly 39 years. Mr. Alves was a family man who truly enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. He came to this country when he was 18. A true animal lover he began work as a farmer, before working as a fisherman and construction worker. He eventually owned his own landscaping company. He loved driving his truck to Second Beach and looking out on the water. Manuel took great pride in taking care of his lawn and home. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.Besides his wife, Maria, he is survived by his three children, Brenda Lee Alves of Fall River, MA, Kevin Manuel Alves of New Bedford, MA and Yvonne Alves of Middletown, RI; his sister, Maria Alves of Portugal, his seven grandchildren, Melody Wright, Isaac Pierce, Alexandra Alves, Cody Alves, Ashley Silvia, Lehya Mickle and Brooklyn Mickle, and one great grandson, Jaden Coleman.Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 8:30 - 10:00am at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am, on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown.
