89, of 149 Kay Street, Newport, RI, died Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Louise C. Craig Ferreira, and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 11th. Born in Newport, RI, on November 30, 1919, he was the son of the late Manuel A. and Deolinda Ferreira.Mr. Ferreira had worked as a carpenter for NETC, on the Newport Naval Base, for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII. Mr. Ferreira had participated in the D-Day Invasion and also served on a submarine chaser. He was a Communicant of Jesus Saviour Church, where he was active since 1929, where he started as an Altar Boy and then served as an Altar Server. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the FOPA, and the Middletown Knights of Columbus. Mr. and Mrs. Ferreira had been professional roller skaters for years at the Portsmouth and Warren Roller Rinks. He was the father of his late infant daughter Louise Ferreira and brother of the late Alexandrine Ferreira.His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 9:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in Gate Of Heaven in East Providence, RI..Calling hours will be held Friday, March 6, 2009, from 4-7pm in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI 02840, or to the Rescue Wagon of your choice.
