MIDDLETOWN, RI - Manuel J. Silvia, 87, of 845 Aquidneck Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton, RI. He was the husband of Florence Collins Silvia. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 28, 2005. Born in Middletown, RI on April 25, 1918, he was the son of the late Jessie and Angelica Moniz Silvia. Mr. Silvia served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He fought in Europe, Africa, Morocco, Sicily, Naples, Rome and France. Manuel was the owner of Aquidneck Floor Surfacing and an active member of the Middletown Knights of Columbus 4201. He was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church in Newport, RI. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Nancy Babcock of Portsmouth, RI, his randdaughter Amanda Bourne of Newport, RI, his grandson Andrew M. Bourne and his wife Heather Erickson Bourne of North Kingstown, RI, and his brother Antone Silvia of Middletown, RI. He was the brother of the late Jesse Silvia, Rose Morinho, and Mary Homen. His funeral will be held on Monday, July 18, 2005, at 9:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2005, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
