Manuel M. Silvia Jr

Manuel Martin Silvia Jr., 94, of Portsmouth, died Friday, September 12, 2014 at the RI Veterans Home in Bristol, RI. He was the husband of the late Alice (Travers) Silvia and the late Loramae H. (Johnson) Silvia. Born in Fall River, MA on June 10, 1920, he was the son of the late Manuel Silvia and Theresa (Raposa) Silvia. Manuel was a Portsmouth resident for most of his life and he worked in his family business, Silvias Mini Mart on West Main Road. He was a veteran of WWII in the US Army, and a member of the VFW and American Legion. For many years, he was employed as a Police Officer on the Newport Naval Base. He is survived by three daughters Betty Minuskin of North Easton, MA, Susan Schaffer of Brownville, ME, and Nancy Silvia of Milo, ME, as well as six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, as well as Loramae's children. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.Funeral services will be private.Donations may be made in his memory to RI Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Ave, Bristol 02809.
