Manuel Monteiro

Newport, - Manuel Monteiro, 80, of 32 Chapel Terrace Newport, died Friday, April 30, 2004 at home.He was the husband of Isabella Gonsalves Monteiro. Born in New Bedford, MA on July 11, 1923, he was the son of the late Maximo and Geralda Neves Monteiro. Mr. Monteiro had worked as a construction worker at Gilbane, Cardi Corporation, and ATR Construction Company for 30 years, retiring in 1965. He was a Communicant of St. Marys Church in Newport. He had served as the Past President of the Cape Verdean Club of Newport. Mr. Monteiro was a member of the Sachuest Fishing Club and the Salt Water Fishing Club. Mr. Monteiro was also a Veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. He is survived by two sons Michael A. Monteiro of Newport, RI, and Kenneth V. Monteiro of Newport, RI, a daughter Diane L. Monteiro of Newport, RI, two brothers Albert Monteiro of Newport, RI, and Raoul Galvin of New Bedford, MA, a sister Mary Woodward of Newport, RI, and 4 Grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Julius Monteiro, John Monteiro, Joseph Monteiro, Maximo Monteiro, Anthony Monteiro, Georgina Andrews, and Rita Monteiro.His funeral will be held Tuesday, May. 4, at 8:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00AM, in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
