Newport, RI - Manuel P. Medeiros, 89, of 98 Warner Street, Newport, died Monday April 11, 2011, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI.He was the husband of Anna DeCosta Medeiros.Born in Fall River, MA, on May 13, 1921, he was the son of the late Vicente Vieira and Virginia Raposa Medeiros.Mr. Medeiros served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He worked as custodian for the Newport School Department for 30 years. He was a communicant of Jesus Savior Church and was also a the groundskeeper there for many years. Mr. Medeiros was an avid coin collector, loved gardening and was a golf enthusiast. He will be remembered most as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved spending all of his free time with his family.Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his children, Vincent P. Medeiros of Newport, RI, Gina Charles Dobson of Coventry, RI, and Margaret Edward Elliott and Diane Nels C. Larson of Newport, RI, his grandchildren, Jeffrey Dobson, Danielle Dobson, Nicholas Medeiros, Jessica Ann Elliott, Tara Lynn Elliott, Sunny-Dae Larson and Lilly Larson and his first great grandson on the way.He was the father of the late Manuel Medeiros.At the request of the family calling hours are omitted.His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at 10:00am in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 State Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02908 or to the Newport Hospital, Cardiac Rehab, 11 Friendship Street, Newport, RI 02840.
