Manuel Richard Ferreira

- Manuel Richard Ferreira, 91, of 72 Newport Ave., Middletown, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at John Clarke Nursing Center Middletown, RI.He was the husband of the late Mary Almeida Ferreira. Born in Fall River, MA on December 30, 1910, he was the son of the late Manuel and Rita Souza Ferreira. Mr. Ferreira was a Police Officer with the Middletown Police Department. Mr. Ferreira was with the first group to become permanent Middletown Police officers under Chief Albro. After retirement from the Police Department in 1970 he worked for the Middletown Public Works. Mr. Ferreira was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church and a member of the Vasco da Gama Holy Ghost Society. He is survived by two sons John J. Ferreira and Joseph J. Ferreira both of Middletown, RI, a daughter Alice M. Mosher of Middletown, RI, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Frank Ferry, and two sisters Mary Scafidi and Josephine Vars. His funeral will be held on Friday, August 2, 2002, at 8:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00AM, in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Donations in his memory may be made to the John Clarke Nursing Center, 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
