Portsmouth, RI - Manuel Viera, 83, of 46 Norwood Ave Portsmouth, died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at the Grand Islander Health Care Center. He was the husband Mildred D. Silvia Viera. Born in Little Compton, RI on December 9, 1921, he was the son of the late Gene and Hortense Almeida Viera. In 1970, Mr. Viera began Island Oil Company which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Viera worked for Fairholm Diary in Portsmouth for many years as a driver, and later worked for Hedley Oil Co. also in Portsmouth. He was a member of Saint Anthony?s Church. Besides his wife of 58 years he is survived by two daughters Shirley Chace and Kathleen Viera Beaudoin both of Portsmouth, five brothers Gene Viera Jr., James Viera and Benjamin Viera all of Portsmouth, RI, Alfred Viera of Florida and William Viera of Bristol, RI, five sisters Olivia Gomes of Bristol, RI, Estrella Miley of Tiverton, RI, Eleanor Silvia of Florida, Eva Lima of Middletown, RI, and Josephine Fournier of Massachusetts, his granddaughter Barbara Sherman and three great grandsons Nicholas, Michael and Zachary Sherman. He was the brother of the late Angelina Fava and Joseph Viera. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 14, 2005, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
