Margaret A. Diehl

MIDDLETOWN - Margaret A. (Todd) Diehl, 88, formerly of 11 Sherwood Road, passed gently in the presence of her daughters on Sunday, Sep 22, 2013. She was the wife of the late John J. Diehl, Capt., USMC (Ret), and they shared 60 years of marriage together despite her husbands combat in WWII and Korea. Raised in Indian Head, MD, 'Bubbles' met John at the Marine Garrison there and they had three children together at USMC bases in Camp Lejeune and Parris Island. When he retired from the Corps in 1961, John and 'Bubbles' settled in Middletown in Sherwood Village. An avid gardener who adored cooking and entertaining, Mrs. Diehl prided herself in the landscaping of their home highlighted by her beloved bird feeders that attracted her favorite-feathered friends. She was also a friend of animals and supporter of the Potter League. She loved and cared for them all, from the Diehl's Sheltie, Bonnie, and her black Persian cat, Tiger, to the squirrels who came begging for peanuts. She lived a life filled with family, friends and her 'critters'. Rest well, Mom, we all love you.Mrs. Diehl is survived by her daughters, Karen D. Reller and husband, Bob, of Jacksonville, FL, and Deborah D. Loeffler and husband, Steve, of San Diego, CA. Bubbles is also survived by three grandchildren, CDR Jason S. Reller, USN, and his wife Stephanie and their two children; Ms. Lauren E. Loeffler, and Mr. J. Christopher Loeffler II. Mrs. Diehl was sister of the late David E. 'Mickey' Todd and Helen Broman. She was pre-deceased by her son, the late John Evan Diehl, killed in a US Army accident in Panama in 1976. She will now rejoin "her men" at peace in Trinity Cemetery.A memorial service will be held on Monday, Sep 30, 2013 at 11:00 in Trinity Church, Queen Anne's Square, Newport, where the family were long-time parishioners and where her daughters were married. John and Bubbles played active roles at Trinity Church where she served many years on the Alter Guild. All are welcome at the service.
