Middletown, RI - Margaret Ann Gallagher Gill, 84, of 309 Chases Lane, Middletown, RI, died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William F. Gill. They were married in St. Marys Church in 1952. Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, on March 31, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Kelly Gallagher.Margaret came to America in 1942, making Newport her adopted home. She worked for many of the private estates before starting her family and giving them her undivided attention. She was proud and honored to become an American Citizen in 1966. Margaret was an avid gardener and loved to work in the yard. If she wasnt outdoors, she was inside making her famous Irish soda bread for whoever dropped by for tea. She had many friends on both sides of the Atlantic. Whenever any came to town, their first stop would always be to Margarets home and hospitality. She is survived by her sons William J. Gill and his wife Libby Aud of Middletown, RI, and John P. Sean Gill and his wife Karen Hall of Upper Macungie, PA, her daughter Mary K. Martins and her husband Frank of Middletown, RI, with whom she lived. Also survived by her brother Peter Gallagher of Boynton Beach, FL, and her beloved grandchildren, Brian Gill, Kevin Gill and Betsy Gill all of Middletown, RI, Liam Gill and Cailin Gill of Upper Macungie, PA and step grandson Ryan Langlais also of Middletown. Her funeral will be held on Monday, November 10, 2008, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2008, from 4-7 in the funeral home.
