Margaret M. "Chickie" (Bennett) Murphy, of Middletown, RI, formerly of Thurston Avenue, Newport, died Monday, January 21, 2013 at Grand Islander Health Care Center of Middletown, RI. Born on May 17, 1928 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Willard R. and Margaret (Dwyer) Bennett. She was the wife of Robert M. Murphy. Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of St. Catherine's Academy in 1946. She was employed by the Naval Underwater Ordinance and the Newport School Department. Mrs. Murphy was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church and also a member of the Rosary and Alter Society. A devoted and loving grandmother, she loved spending time with all of her grandchildren, frequently attending their sporting events, recitals and plays. Growing up on "The Point", she enjoyed spending time with her husband walking Battery Park. She also loved traveling with her husband visiting friends.Besides her husband of 61 years, she is survived by her children, Kathleen Rubel and her husband Joseph, Joanne Rouse and her husband Alfred, Christine Farrar and her husband James, Stephen Murphy and his wife Doreen, Michael Murphy and his wife Maria and Robert Murphy and his wife Lisa, and her grandchildren, Megan Mahle and her husband Jesse, Jillian and Kerrianne Rouse, Julia, Joseph and Christopher Rubel, Tyler and Nichole Murphy, Sarah and Christopher Murphy and Rowan, Nathan and Shannon Farrar. She was the sister of the late Wilma Patrick. Calling hours will be held on, Friday, January 25, 2013, from 4-7pm, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 9am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport, RI.Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leukemia Lymphoma Society, 1210 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920.
