Margaret D. Ferris Souza

Margaret D. Ferris Souza, 91, of Green End Avenue, Middletown, RI, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011 at Newport Hospital.She was the wife of the late Manuel P. Souza who passed away in 2002.Born in Middletown, RI on October 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Olivia Bulcao Ferris.Mrs. Souza was formerly employed as a housekeeper and was currently employed as a newspaper carrier for the Newport Daily News for the past 25 years. She was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church in Newport and was a member of its Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed polka music, Lawrence Welk, cooking, baking, flower gardening, bingo, and the Jesus Saviour and St. Anthonys Church Feasts. At the very first St. Anthony Church Feast in 1955, she won the car in the church raffle.She is survived by her children, Francis A. Souza and his wife, Kathleen, John P. Souza and his wife, Janet, Paul E. Souza and his wife, Ada, and Barbara A. Cordeiro, all of Middletown, RI; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, expecting number eight; and her sister, Emily Foster of Middletown, RI. She was the sister of the late Olivia Silvia, Mary E. Roderick, Alvina A. Ferris, Irene B. Ferris and James E. Ferris.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 8 am from Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Vernon Avenue and Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown, RI.
