Margaret Lee Causey 1922 - 2015 Early on the morning of 3 August 2015, Margaret Lee Causey, ne Ross, made her lifes final journey, joining her parents and husband in the House of the Lord. Margaret was born in Brooklyn, New York on 29 May, 1922 to the late William Roland Ross, a real estate broker and the late Mary Ella Ross, ne Thompson, a WWI Army nurse, both of Brooklyn, New York. She attended school in Red Bank, New Jersey and was an avid ice skater, swimmer and equestrian. After graduating from high school, Margaret and her parents moved to Newport, Rhode Island. She started her career with the US Government in August of 1942 as a junior typist at the Naval Base in Newport. During the war years, she volunteered her time at USO functions, and was among the best dancers at the USO dances. In February of 1947 she was briefly married to the late Ensign William C. Withrow, a submariner and former POW in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. In December 1955 she moved to Green Cove Springs, Florida and married the late Robert W. Causey, LCDR-USN (ret), who was stationed at the Naval base there. In the summer of 1958 they were transferred to Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, NY, where they remained until 1971. Margaret and Bob returned to Newport, R.I. in the summer of 71 and in December of that year, she joined the William Ellery-Colonel William Barton Chapter (currently Aquidneck Island Chapter) of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Margaret came into the DAR on a French Connection. Her ancestor, William Louis Jouvet, one of General Rochambeaus soldiers, came to Newport to help the Americans in their fight for independence. Jouvet later married Mary Downer from Newport. During Margarets forty-year-plus DAR membership, she served as the Chapter Regent for nine years (not consecutive) and also held the offices of Recording Secretary, Registrar, Vice-Regent and numerous chairmanships. On the state level, Margaret served as Regent, Vice-Regent, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Chair of many committees. On the National level, she served on the Board of Management as the Rhode Island Regent, The National Officers Club, the National State Vice-Regents Club, the National Chairmans Committee, Chair of American Heritage, the Speakers Staff and the National Vice-Chairman for Commemorative Events.During her first visit to DAR Headquarters in Washington, DC in the summer of 72, she stood on the stage of the empty Constitution Hall and said someday I will stand here during Continental Congress. She did indeed stand on that stage, and attended over 15 sessions of that Congress, often driving the Rhode Island delegation there and back.Margaret loved to travel, but was not thrilled with having to fly overseas to visit her son who was stationed in Jordan, Egypt, Cyprus, France and Austria. During those visits she also had the opportunity to visit Israel and Italy.
