ROME, GA - Margaret Lina Nixon, 91, of Rome, GA, formerly of Cedartown, GA and 150 Green End Avenue, Middletown, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 following an extended illness.. She was the wife of the late Herbert Arthur Nixon. Born in Newport, RI on July 26, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Sophie Elling Alderson.Mrs. Nixon had worked as a post office clerk for the Newport Main Post Office on Thames Street, for over 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Edward King House and a former member of St. Georges Episcopal Church. Mrs. Nixon traveled all over the world with her friends to Europe and the Orient. She enjoyed sewing and ceramics in her free time and was known for her beautiful flower gardens. She is survived by her sister Louise Alderson Ritchie of Middletown, RI, her niece with whom she lived Margaret Coleman of Cedartown, GA, her nephews John H. Alderson of Albany, GA, her niece Colette Griffin of Floral City, FL, her niece Delores Doran of Brick, NJ and many great nieces and nephews.She was the mother of the late Kevin Nixon and the sister of the late John H. Alderson and Anne Tweedale. Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 31, 2008, at 11:00 am in Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn Street, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2008, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
