Margaret L. Grondin Hicks Portsmouth, RI - Margaret L. Grondin Hicks, 96, of 15 Sakonnet Drive, Portsmouth, a retired Personnel Manager, died at home on Wednesday, February 7, 2007. She was the wife of the late Frederick F. Hicks. Born in Fall River, MA on January 3, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah F. and Mary Jane Conway Grondin.She graduated from BMC Durfee High School and Thidbodeau Business School in Fall River and worked as a telephone operator and a secretary for a law firm till marrying her husband in 1933 and then traveling with him till he retired from the USN in 1946. She served as a member of the Womens Civil Defense Corps while her husband was overseas during WWII. She retired after over 30 years service, as Personal Manager of the Newport Navy Exchange in 1975. After her retirement she was very active in civic and political organizations. She was a member of the Portsmouth Republican Committee, served on the Republican State Central Committee, was a founding member of the Glen Manor Committee, a member of AARP and former local President, a member of the Portsmouth Senior Center, a member of the Governors Committee on Aging for 6 years and a parishioner and former CCD and Parish Council member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend and an avid reader all of her life. She is survived by her only daughter Patricia Hicks, with whom she resided, a sister Bernadette Grondin Pereira of Tiverton, RI, as well as eight nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Delvina Grondin, Ruth Grondin McConnon, Juliette Grondin Wolsey, Lillian Grondin Cottrell, Joseph Grondin, Jeremiah Grondin Jr. and John Grondin. Her funeral will be held on Monday, February 12, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2007, from 3-6 p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home. NO FLOWERS PLEASE.
