Newport, RI - Margaret Mary Stewart Enwright, 82, died peacefully at her sons home surrounded by her family, after a long illness on Sunday, August 21.She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John J. Enwright three years prior.Born in Newport, RI on April 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James and Sylvia Flanagan Stewart.Margaret, Peg, or Peggy to her friends, was a kind, generous, tolerant, and caring person who impacted countless lives, in many innumerable ways. Noted for her sharp wit, Margaret was an avid reader, great conversationalist, connoisseur of all things French, civically engaged, and a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She graduated from St. Catherines High School in Newport, and Regis College in Weston, MA, where she was class president with a major in French. Over a 40 year career, Margaret taught in Newport, Tiverton, and Morristown, New Jersey, gracefully enriching the lives of countless students throughout the years. She also worked for American Airlines, and lived in Philadelphia and Florida, before returning to Newport. Margaret was a member of the Newport Retired Teachers Association; a shareholder and longtime supporter of the Redwood Library; an enthusiastic supporter of Eastons beach; a member of Friends of the Waterfront, Newport; a parishioner at St. Josephs, and a tireless volunteer in St. Josephs soup kitchen; a former president of the Catholic Daughters of America; a member of the Rosary Alter Society; a pollster for Newport County, and a former guide for the Newport Preservation Society.She is survived by her three children, Jack, Jane and Michael, daughter-in-law Karen, son-in-law Merchon and four beautiful grandchildren, Meaghan, James, Alessandra and Nathan. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at 9:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Josephs Soup Kitchen, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
