Portsmouth, RI - Margaret M. Raposa, 89, of Portsmouth, passed away unexpectedly at her winter home in Venice FL on Thursday, December 12th. Margaret was born in Portsmouth to James and Annie (Sullivan) Raposa and was pre-deceased by her brother, James Raposa, of Portsmouth and her sister, Gertrude Reise, of Jamestown. Margaret is survived by seven nephews and nieces: John Reise of Portsmouth, RI, Donald Reise of Cambridge, MD, James Reise of Jamestown, RI, Terrence Reise of New Milford, CT, Stephen Reise of Newport, RI, Sandra Ehrenberg of Kentucky and James Raposa of Colorado. She also leaves her best friend of over 70 years, Catherine Mureddu of Newport. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth and wintered in Florida for several decades. She was a graduate of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing. Prior to her career of many years at Naval Hospital Newport, she worked at several hospitals in Rhode Island and Florida. She was an avid traveler and loved cooking and baking and spending time with her family and friends. Margaret was a communicant of St. Anthonys of Portsmouth and Our Lady of Lourdes in Venice, FL. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013, from 4-7pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 20, at 9am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
