Margery Wilson White, 88, of Middletown, formerly of Colony Drive, Middletown, died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Newport Hospital. Born in Chicago, IL on January 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Robert Miles and Mildred (Burke) Wilson.Margery received her Degree in 1946 from the University of Michigan, and worked much of her life as a teacher. She retired in 1985 after 15 years of teaching in the Middletown Public School system. Margery was also an active volunteer in the Newport community. She served as an elder for the First Presbyterian Church and was a lifetime member of Presbyterian Women. She was a past president of Friends of Middletown Public Library and for many years, a volunteer for the Newport Music Festival. She also volunteered at the Newport office of the American Red Cross and for Meals on Wheels.She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Benjamin Jackson White Jr. of Middletown, RI, two sons Steven White of Flagstaff, AZ, and Ben White of Deerfield, IL, two daughters Susan White of San Rafael, CA, and Janet White of London, England, as well as one sister Virginia Florio of Ponte Verde, FL, and five grandchildren, Connor, Erin, Sydney, Olivia, and Miles.Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 10:00AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Broadway and Everett, Newport.
