Newport, - Marguerite Antoinette Gitzhoffer Bernard, 86, of 19 Pennacook Street Newport, died Sunday, July 13, 2003 at home. She was the wife of the late Joseph Bernard. Born in Marbache, France on July 31, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Isidore and Marguerite Marbaque Gitzhoffer. Mrs. Bernard had worked as a chef for various restaurants in Newport, including the former Sheraton Hotel, the former Lindy?s Restaurant, Laforge Restaurant and Ocean View Restaurant. She is survived by one daughter Marie Antoinette Amaral of Newport, RI, two granddaughters Michele Banks of Middletown, R.I., Pascale Amaral of Indianapolis, Indiana, one great granddaughter Brieana Marie Banks of Middletown, R.I. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, July, 16, at 7:30 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.Committal Prayers will be held in the Chapel of Atlantic Crematory, 55 West Main Road Portsmouth.
