Maria Alice Graham

Forestville, MD - Maria Alice Rose Graham, 89, of 6140 Surrey Square Lane, Forestville, MD, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, MD. Born in Newport, RI on June 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Mario Ruby Rose and Amelia Pierce Rose.Maria received her communion confirmation at St. Josephs Church in Newport. Maria was educated with the Newport Public School System and furthered her education in Dentistry and worked as a Dental Hygienist in Brooklyn, NY. Later in life, Maria worked as a daycare provider at the Martin Luther King Center in Newport. She also worked at the Florence Gray Center as a Foster Grandparent where she was affectionately known to the children and others as Grandma Graham. She is survived by her children, Jeannette Oliveira of Newport, RI Sheila G. Parson of Kingstree, SC, Kathleen M. Murphy of Philadelphia, PA, Roosevelt J. Graham, Jr. of Newport, RI, Missouri V. George of Forestville, MD, Michael R. Graham of Simi Valley, CA, Lori E. Graham of Providence, RI her brother-in-law Herbert Graham of Florence, SC, twenty three grandchildren, forty two great grandchildren, and twenty two great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends and her three dearest friends, Josephine Fields, Marie Hines and Gertrude Sanders.She was the mother of the late Joseph Oliveira and Thomas Oliveira.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011, at 11:00am, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
