Maria D. Mello Arruda, 79, of Friendship Street, Newport, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Newport Hospital.She was the wife of Jose Arruda.Born in San Miguel, The Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jucinto and Guilhermina Viera Mello.Mrs. Arruda had worked at Newport Hospital as a housekeeper as well as in the laundry department. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Newport.In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Ann Cabral and her husband Paul of Portsmouth, RI; four grandchildren, John Mureddu, Jr., Eric Mureddu, Ariana Cabral and Adam Cabral; and a great-grandson, Ethan Mureddu. She was the mother of the late Maria Mureddu and Joseph Arruda.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 2:00-5:00 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Her funeral will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 8:00 am from Memorial Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Joseph Church, Broadway at Mann Avenue, Newport.
