Marianna Mendes. Perry, 85, of Stagecoach Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, February 6, 2012 at Newport HospitalShe was the wife of Joseph William Perry. Born in Portsmouth, RI on August 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Agnes Brown Mendes.Marianna worked for the State of RI in the Bristol School Department food service department for 22 years. Following her career working in the school system, she spent several years at the Newport Convention and Visitors Bureau. Mrs. Perry was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church and also a member of their Womens Guild. She also shared her knowledge with others as a volunteer income tax assistant through the AARP. In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by two sons, Bruce W. Perry of Metairie, LA and Jeffrey W. Perry of Chester, MA; her sister, Alice Silvia of Portsmouth, RI; and her five granddaughters, Alicia Caruso and her husband Mike, Lauren Perry, Katherine Perry, Nicole Perry and Amanda Perry.She was the sister of the late Joseph Mendes, David Mendes and Helen Mendes.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 4-7 pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Her funeral will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 9 am from Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
