Newport, RI - Marie A. Neibert Jacobs, 87, of Bliss Road, Newport, RI, formerly of Smith Avenue, Newport, RI, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Newport Hospital.She was the wife of the late Daniel G. Jacobs.Born in Danville, PA on March 21, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Mary H. Malinowski Neibert.Mrs. Jacobs was a graduate of Danville High School and St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA, where she was a student in the U.S. Nurses Cadet Corp during World War II. She was formerly employed as a private duty RN, a former staff nurse at Forest Farm Health Care Center in Middletown and at various hospitals elsewhere. Mrs. Jacobs was a parishioner of St. Josephs Church where she was a member of the Liturgy Committee, Ministry of Consolation and Visitation, the Rosary and Altar Society and she was also a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Newport Democratic City Committee, the Beach Rose Society of Red Hats, the AARP, the Edward King Senior Center and Portsmouth Senior Center. She was a former member of the RI Silver Hair Legislature, a member o the former Raytheon Womens Club and the former Hazard Memorial School Mothers Club. Mrs. Jacobs loved reading, dancing, sports, arts and crafts, being with her children and grandchildren and with her many friends. She is survived by her children, Danette J. Walsh and her husband Michael T. Walsh of Newport, RI, JoAnn E. Priest and her husband Scott Priest of Medway, MA, Jeffrey G. Jacobs and his wife Elizabeth W. Jacobs of Plainfield, CT, Mark P. Jacobs and his wife Emily M. Jacobs of Hightstown, NJ; her grandchildren, Mary K. Walsh, Timothy D. Walsh, Jacob G. Priest, Katerina E. Jacobs, Liam K. Jacobs, Brianna N. Jacobs and Dakota D. Jacobs; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Margaret C. Shuman, Gertrude T. Flannery, Edward J. Neibert, William J. Neibert, Joseph C. Neibert and Leon T. Neibert.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, from 4-8 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 9 am from Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Joseph Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph / St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, 5 Mann Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
