Marie Brownell

Marie B. Brownell, 83, died December 31, 2013 at the John Clarke Nursing Center, Middletown, RI. Ms. Brownell was born April 16, 1930 in Hoosick Falls, NY to LeGrand and Edna Gooding. After graduating from SUNY-Oneonta with a degree in education Marie began her career as a primary school teacher. Even with time taken to have two sons Marie spent more than 30 years, including over 20 years in Middletown helping young children on the way with their education. She was defined by her love for her kids no matter that at times they made it hard by being exactly what they were kids. The past 12 years she enjoyed spending winters in Ocala, FL where she made many close friends and was finally able to stay warm and cozy after may RI winters. While in Ocala she also took great pleasure in taking on the role of Mom to her cousin Wayne Brownell who lived nearby.Marie is survived by her two sons, Scott and wife Kim, Marc and wife Betsy, grandsons Jes Brownell and Geoffrey Brownell, and great granddaughter Katelyn Brownell. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all of us. Marie was a member of the United Baptist Church of Newport. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:30am at the church on Spring Street in Newport and we welcome any and all that knew her.In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation to the United Baptist Church of Newport, 30 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
