Newport, RI - Marie Hope Nana Childs Tobin, 91, of 17A Pond Avenue, Newport, RI, formerly of 6 Warner Place, Newport, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at home with her family.She was the wife of the late Richard Tobin. Born in Barnstable, MA on January 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Parkman and Florence Larkin Childs.Mrs. Tobin worked for 23 years at the Newport Hospital as a dietician retiring in 1987and also worked for 21 years at Cumberland Farms on Aquidneck Avenue. She was a member of St. Marys Episcopal Church. Mrs. Tobin enjoyed taking care of her family and friends.She was the mother of the late Richard Francis Tobin, Sharon Marie DePalma, and Carol Ann Benson and sister of the late Francis Childs and Mary Blake. She is survived by her son Brian Michael Tobin of Illinois, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010, from 4-7pm at the Hambly Funeral Home, Brick House, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, RI. A Celebration of her life will be on Friday, June 18, 2010, at 12PM at the Gibbs House, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be private.
