Newport, RI - Marie Maggie Dawson Stander 78, of 55 Friendship Street Newport died Saturday, July 21, 2007 in the Heatherwood Nursing Center in Newport. She was the wife of Ernest E. Stander having celebrated 32 years of marriage.Born in Skidmore, MD on February 7, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Frank Arthur and Maggie Stevens Green.Besides her husband she leaves a son Robert Dawson of Richmond, CA, a daughter Eleanor Marie Dawson Weldon of Newport, RI, her five grandchildren Lana M. Weldon Nelson of Gautier, MS, Lawrence Weldon of Newport, RI, Virginia Dawson of New Jersey, Michele Dawson Simmers of Oak Grove, KY and Amanda Dawson of Washington, D.C. She also leaves nine great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Mrs. Stander was sister of the late Frank Green Jr., Robert Green, Florence G. Green Murray, Mattie Lee Green Sykes, Estelle Green Harris, Daisy Green Taylor, Rosie Green Brown and Hattie Green.Mrs. Stander enjoyed helping others in need. She opened her home and her heart to others. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 9:30am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 177 Miantonomi Avenue, Middletown, RI.Calling hours will be held Friday evening from 6 - 8 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway Newport, RI.In Lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Heatherwood Nursing Center, 398 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI 02840 or to the American Diabetes Association, 222 Richmond Street, Suite 204, Providence, RI 02903.
