Tiverton, RI - Marie Mercedes Amelia Gockley White, 84, of 23 Riverview Avenue, Tiverton, RI, died on Thursday, April 07, 2011, at the Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 70 Harrison Avenue, Newport, RI. Born in Barto, PA on June 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin K. Gockley and Marie Eugene Pottier Gockley.Marie Mickey attended West Reading High School in Reading, PA. Her career path, lead her into the restaurant business and for 42 years she worked as a modern day Food and Beverage Director. She managed restaurants up and down the Eastern Seaboard at such notable places as Cooperstown Country Club, Hotel Hershey and Sheraton International. In addition to this amazing career, Marie managed to raise a family of 10 children. Mrs. White was an avid cook, gardener, and seamstress. She is survived by four daughters, Karen M. Sokolowski of Springfield, MA, Marilyn L. Flanagan of McCaysville, GA, Diane L. Lundgren of Tiverton, RI, and Marcia White also of Tiverton, RI; five sons, Russell S. White of Warwick, RI, Calvin E. White of Brockton, MA, Dean B. White of Whitman, MA, Michael J. White of Carlisle, PA, and Keith S. White of Chesapeake, VA. Additionally there are 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.Marie is predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Earl Raymond White, Jr. 2010 a daughter Michelle S. White 2003. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011, from 3:00-6:00, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 12 at 11:00am in Connors Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pocassett Hill Cemetery in Tiverton.
