Marilla Fyler Perras, 89, of Atria Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Glastonbury, CT, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at home. She was the wife of Irvin M. Perras. Born in East Hartford, CT on December 29, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Daisy Mae Fyler. Mrs. Perras was an Assistant Bank Manager at Peoples Bank in Glastonbury, CT for many years before retiring. As a member for over fifty at the First Church of Christ in Glastonbury, she served as the Church Secretary for many years as well as being involved with the ladies knitting and sewing clubs. She was also the Secretary of the Womens Club of Glastonbury.She loved to travel the world over and always visited her son and family annually in the many locations the US Navy stationed them.Mrs. Perras was an avid gardener, not only of flowers, but always had large vegetables gardens, the produce of which she would can or freeze to be used in her love of cooking. Great enjoyment came to her from going to the theater often. She was an accomplished bridge player, playing several times a week with different groups. In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by her son, Captain Wayne I. Perras, US Navy Retired and his wife, Alice, of Portsmouth, RI; her brother, Anson C. Fyler and his wife, Bee, of Vero Beach, FL; daughter-in-law, Ruth Perras of Rockaway, NJ, five grandchildren, Erika Day, Ryan Perras, Nicole Fuller, Charles Perras and Marc Perras; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Day, Jessica Day, Jackson Fuller and Noah Perras. She was the mother of the late Charles L. Perras. A graveside inurnment service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 12 noon in Green Cemetery, Main Street, Glastonbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Fund, PO Box 806 , Portsmouth , RI 02871 .
