Tiverton, RI - Marilyn (Thompson) Silva, 74, passed away on June 5, 2012 at home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Gerald J. Silva for over 55 years. Born in Fall River, MA on February 28, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Harry Thompson and Helen (Skok/Thompson) O'Connell.She and her family had many happy and enjoyable years spent at the Tiverton Yacht Club, where they were members from 1967-1976. Sailing her sunfish was her challenge, and her children enjoyed the many activities the Club had to offer. Marilyn graduated from the Class of 1955 at BMC Durfee High School, and graduated from Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA in 1971. She worked in her early years at James N. Buffington Insurance Agency in Fall River, MA and was a permanent substitute teacher in the Fall River School Department from 1971 to 1976. She served on the class reunion committee for every reunion from Durfee High School. She and her husband celebrated her 50th High School reunion in 2005, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006 with all of their family in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. She and her family resided on Reed Street in Tiverton, RI for twelve years and on Nanaquaket Road for two years. They then moved to Wayne, PA in 1976, where she worked at Bryn Mawr College from 1977-1984. She then moved on to an office management position for the former governor of PA, George M .Leader, developer of assisted living communities along with retirement facilities. Marilyn and her husband relocated back to Tiverton, RI in 1991 and settled on North Court off of Nanaquaket Road. She undertook volunteer work at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA serving as a secretary on the Auxiliary Board for eight years. She then became assistant buyer for their gift shop, but always remained a member of the Board. Marilyn enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends, walking, reading, and spending many happy summers swimming at the beach. She was a member of Briggs Beach in Little Compton, RI along with the Sustainers Women's Group. Marilyn was a parishioner of St. Christopher's Church in Tiverton, RI and served as president of the Womens Guild for the parish. She is survived by her beloved children, Catherine A. McClatchy and her husband Trip of Havertown, PA, Thomas J. Silva and his wife Annette of West Chester, PA, and Jeffrey G. Silva of Valley Forge, PA. Marilyn truly cherished her five grandchildren, Jennifer M. Rappe and her husband Rodney, Sean McClatchy of Havertown, PA, Thomas M. Silva of West Chester, PA, Melissa Fiorella and her husband Dan and Kristina Silva of Valley Forge, PA. Her beloved great-grandchildren, Luca A. and Rocco R. Rappe of Havertown, PA, Angelo J., Blake and Chase Fiorella of Valley Forge, PA. Marilyn left a sister, Brenda OConnell of Fort Myers, FL, and two brothers Harry Thompson and his wife Pat of Mesa, AZ, and Joseph OConnell and his wife Debbie of Providence, RI. She had many cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012, from 9-10:30am, in St. Christopher's Church, 1660 Main Road, Tiverton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00am.Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Tiverton.
