Mario M Dosouto 78 of Middletown RI left all his suffering and pain behind and entered into a peaceful heavenly slumber on the 8 of May 2013 at Newport Hospital. The son of the late Sergio and Adelina (Garcia) doSouto he was born in Faial, Portugal on Feb 6th 1935. He grew up in Faial with his three brothers Eduardo Souto of Middletown, Manuel Albert Souto who has predeceased him and Antonio Garcia Souto of Middletown. At a young age these three boys lost their father and so began their struggles in life. All of the boys had to start helping and this made their family very strong and very close, to them family was everything. When they immigrated to this country they wanted a better life and with that it made for some difficult decisions. Mario ventured into New York and began working for Pan American airlines while his brothers remained behind in Fall River, MA. In the summer of 1968 he traveled back to Faial with his mother and met Virginia Dutra Moitoso, they fell in love and were married that summer. On returning back to New York they lived in Queens and the following year their family started to grow. Although struggles were just around the corner again, he was soon laid off from Pan America and they then moved to Middletown RI to be closer to his family. He then worked for construction companies until he was called back to Pan America. He picked up his family and moved back to New York but this time not in New York City but on Long Island. Leaving the city he thought the struggles and challenges were gone but they seemed to be following him. At the age of 45 he had a stroke which left him out of work for the rest of life with disabling speech and weakness on his right side. With the help of his family and their love and caring he came a long way and was able to live a pleasant life. They again moved back to Middletown where he helped care for his elderly mother until she needed professional help. Then Mario suffered another stroke which would lead to his peaceful slumber. Mario loved to work in his garden and he always compared his garden to his brother's gardens to see who had the crop coming, whose tomatoes were bigger and who had the best looking potatoes. All those joys were pale in comparison to his growing family. Mario is survived by his loving wife Virginia and their son Sergio and his wife Isabel Dosouto of Broad Brook, CT with their 3 children Megan, Sarah and Sergio; and his other son Jose and his wife Jill Dosouto of Richmond RI and their 3 children Franchesca, Tanner and Landon. Mario always loved when all of the family came to visit, he would do whatever he could so that everyone was happy and well fed. His first granddaughter Franchesca was a joy to him, at birth it was the first girl in Marios family and he could not be prouder. Until the next child came along and the next, with each grandchild one could see his joy. When the second Sergio was born last year he told his Son Sergio, now I can die happy. He was thankful he was able to meet all his grandchildren before he passed away.Mario is also survived by his nieces and nephews who reside in Middletown, California, Canada and Faial. his legacy will live on through the stories he told and the love he had for everyone. Mario would also like to say thank you to all the nurses and doctors who helped him throughout his life and cared for him in his final days at Newport Hospital, thank you to one and all.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2013 from 5:00-8:00pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
