Newport, RI - Marion C. McKenna Humphreys, RN, of Newport, died on July 22, 2010. Born on March 26, 1913 in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Mabel McGaughey McKenna and wife of the late Evan T. Humphreys.A 1934 graduate of the former Homeopathic Hospital now Roger Williams General; Marion held her RN license in both Rhode Island and Florida. She worked as a district nurse in Providence and as an occupational nurse for Textron until 1943 when she joined the Navy Nurse Corps as a reserve nurse. She served in both the reserves and active duty. She served her country as a Lieutenant j.g during World War II and the Korean War. Marion returned to private duty in 1952 and ended her career at the Newport Naval Hospital. Throughout her life Marion was involved in her community. She volunteered at Jesus Savior School and served as an assistant leader in the Girl Scouts. She was a member of St. Josephs Church and participated in many activities. She was also a member of the King Center. She continued to share her nursing expertise, always willing to help others throughout the years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed traveling, and after retiring she traveled extensively both with her late husband and with friends. She enjoyed music, dancing, and painting during her retirement. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. Marion was a caring, loving, and generous daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her daughter Claire Furtado and her husband Edward F. of Jamestown, and by her grandchildren Alexa Furtado of Jamestown, and Laura Caster and her husband Jamie of Newport. Her funeral will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010, at 9:00AM, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery in Jamestown. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Clares Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport or Rhode Island Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue Providence.
