Marion Elizabeth Roberts

July 25, 1926 — January 20, 2009

NEWPORT - MARION E. ROBERTS, 82, formerly of 26 Prescott Hall Road, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2009 at John Clarke Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Sidney D. Roberts, Sr. for 58 years. Born in Newport on July 25, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Rose Turner and step- daughter of the late Sylvester Turner. Marion was a life long resident of Newport and attended Rogers High School. She was christened at Mt. Zion church and attended St. Johns Church. She was also a member of the Queen Esther Chapter of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed numerous hobbies such as swimming, gardening and listening to music. Jazz was her favorite. She cared deeply for stray and lost animals which led her to donate to several shelters in the area. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Sidney D. Roberts, Jr. of Lancaster, CA, David Roberts of Brooklyn, NY, and Barry Roberts of Newport; four daughters, Sharon Roberts of Newport, Gale James of Providence, Priscilla Roberts of Savannah, GA and Terry Roberts of Newport; a brother, Sylvester Turner of Seattle, Washington; and a sister, Aretha Flemming of California. She also is survived by many grandchildren, two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Daniel B. Roberts and her brother Arthur E. Williams. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 11 am in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd. Newport, RI. Visitation is from 10 - 11 am immediately prior to the funeral service in Community Baptist Church. Donations in Marions name can be made to the John Clarke Nursing Center, 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
