Portsmouth, - Marjorie Gastler Hicks, 87, of 125 Quaker Lane, Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, formerly of Durham, CT, where she had lived for 80 years, and Newport, RI, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Irving W. Hicks Jr. Born in Durham, CT on February 20, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Elsie Eick Gastler. Mrs. Hicks was a Graduate of Durham High School, Class of 1933. She had worked as a secretary for Durham Manufacturing in Durham, CT, for 10 years, retiring in 1941. She was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Durham, CT. She was also a member of the Sweet Adelines Choral Group. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks were married for 46 years. She is survived by a son Norman W. Hicks of Durham, CT, two daughters Margo H. Waite of Newport, RI, and Valerie Hoadley of East Granby, CT, and her grandchildren Meredith L. Hicks of Middletown, CT, Samuel B. Hoadley of East Granby, CT, and Katherine R. Hoadley of East Granby, CT. She was also the sister of the late John Burton Gastler, Charles H. Gastler, and Daisy G. Brewer. She was also preceded in death by her loving companion the late Harold A. Dorschug.Funeral services and burial will be private. Donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimers Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
