Middletown, RI - Marjorie Rita Wright Skahill, 92, of Middletown, RI, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Cmdr. John J. Skahill.Born in Braintree, MA, on May 13, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Justin E. and Ethel Preston Wright.Mrs. Skahill was a graduate of Braintree High School and Bridgewater State Teachers College. Prior to working as a teacher, she worked for the FBI during World War II. Mrs. Skahill was an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy and a dedicated member of St. Lucys Church in Middletown, serving as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Mrs. Skahill was also the Director of St. Lucys Soup Kitchen, and a member of the Small Christian Community - Hopeful Seekers, Helping Hearts, and the Community Action Group. She participated in the Life Program and the Sister Parish Committee, which included a trip to El Salvador. Mrs. Skahill also volunteered her services to the American Red Cross, Lucys Hearth, and other organizations that assist the homeless. She was a founding member of Island Hospice and a Hospice volunteer for Hospice Care of Rhode Island. In addition to her volunteer work she was an avid traveler. Mrs. Skahill was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by all.She is survived by her sons Edward A. Skahill and his wife Janet of South Kingstown, RI, John S. Skahill and his wife Sage of Topanga, CA, and William L. Skahill and his wife Debra of Anaheim Hills, CA, her sister Justine Connolly of Newton, MA, and her four grandchildren, Justin and Jonathan of Anaheim Hills CA, Stephen Skahill of Englewood, CO and Katherine Skahill of New Orleans, LA and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Preston Wright. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, from 4-7 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.Donations in her memory may be made to Lucys Hearth or Visiting Nurse Service of Greater Rhode Island Hospice.
