Mark Stephen Weed, 50, of 48 Admiral Kalfbus Road, Newport, RI, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at home. He was the husband of RI Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed.Born in Newport, RI on June 4, 1959, Mark is a 1978 graduate of Rogers High School, and a 1985 graduate of Salve Regina University. He began work at Eastern Ice Company in Newport while in high school and continued his career there for the next 30 years as production manager. Mark enjoyed cooking, and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Fort Adams Trust, as well as past Grand Knight, District Deputy, and 4th Degree General Rosecrans Assembly and the Newport Knights of Columbus, Council 256.In addition to his wife of 23 years, he leaves his mother Joan Heald of Newport, his father Tom Heald and his wife Pat Galuska of Newport, and six siblings: Theresa Soares and her husband Andrew of Portsmouth, Michael Weed of Providence, Mary Robinson and her husband Steve of Middletown, Debbie Burgess of Virginia Beach, VA, Karen Harrington and her husband Bill of Middletown, Beverly Weed of Newport, and Stacy Santos and her husband Frank of Portsmouth, RI. He also leaves his mother and father in law, Arthur and Marie Paiva of Middletown, and his brothers in law Joe Paiva, Jr. and his wife Lauren of Gaithersburg, MD; and John Christopher Paiva and his wife Jacquelyn Mercer of Freedom, NH. Mark was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews: Nichole Patton, Megan Soares, niece and goddaughter Andrea Soares, Matthew and Stephen Weed, Julia Santos, Isaiah Robinson, Josh and Jennie Paiva, Lily Mercer Paiva, and great niece Alana Patton. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 26, at 9:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport.
