Martha Hayden Canning

Martha Hayden Canning, 43 of Tiverton, RI passed away on November 24, 2014 after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Joseph P. Canning, Jr. and Mrs. Claire DeBlois Canning of Portsmouth, RI.Born on December 5, 1970 in Pawtucket, RI. She also leaves behind a sister Lauren Canning Howroyd and her late husband Jay T. Howroyd of Manchester, CT, a sister Paula Canning Bye of Methuen, MA, and a brother Peter J. Canning and his wife Deborah Arey of Plainville, MA. She also leaves her sister-in-law Janet Canning, wife of the late Joseph P. Canning III of Taunton, MA. Martha also leaves several loving nieces and nephews and many devoted friends. Martha resided at Jiley Hill Residence in Tiverton, MA, operated by LIFE, Inc. for several years where she leaves behind many dear friends and staff members. Martha graduated from Middletown High School in 1990. She volunteered at Middletown Library. Martha enjoyed painting classes at Newport Art Museum and held her own art exhibit at Middletown Library. She was also fortunate to have enjoyed European travel with her family. As the subject of several hopeful texts on developmental disabilities, Martha's courage and constant perseverance enriched the lives of many families and friends.Visiting hours will be held at Connors Funeral Home from 4-7p.m. Friday, November 28, 2014 at 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LIFE, Inc., 490 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI 02809. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014, to which friends and family are invited. The burial will be private.
