Newport, RI - Martin H. DaCosta, 81, of 9 1/2 Sylvan Street Newport, sculptor and painter, died Sunday, November 23, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI after a brief illness.He was the husband of Elizabeth Pepper DaCosta for 41 years. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 14, 1921, he was the son of the late Robert and Edna Hoban Dacosta.Mr. DaCosta was born and educated in Philadelphia, he studied with Morris Kantor and William Zorach at the Art Students League in New York City. His works are part of permanent collections in Philadelphia, New York and on the West Coast. He served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II.Funeral services and burial are private.Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
