Portsmouth, RI - Mary A. Murtha Freehan, 86, of Columbia Terrace, Portsmouth, RI, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 in Newport Hospital. She was the devoted wife of George W. Freehan for 59 years. Born in Pittsfield, MA on June 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Delia Gallagher Murtha of Lenox, MA.Mrs. Freehan worked as a secretary for General Electric in Pittsfield, MA. She worked in retail for Sears, formerly of Middletown, and the former Leys Century Store in Newport. Mrs. Freehan served on the Board of Directors for the James L. Maher Center. Besides her husband, she was the devoted mother of Mary Jane Lilley and her husband James of Portsmouth, RI , and Patty June Freehan of Bristol, RI. She was sister of the late Eileen Regnier and Beatrice Horton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 4 -7 pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
