Mary Ann Hanlon, 87, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, quietly passed away at her home in Portsmouth, Rhode Island on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. She was a devoted wife of William A. Hanlon (deceased), loving mother, and a much beloved grandmother. Mary Ann was born on August 28, 1937, in Providence, RI to William and Irene McDermott. Mary Ann is survived by her children; Margaret Warner and her husband Kevin of Tiverton, RI, Kathleen Hanlon, William A. Hanlon, Jr. and his wife, Lynn, Elizabeth A. Lewis and her husband Ralph and Patricia Baronian, all of Portsmouth.
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren; Christopher Warner, Maureen Warner, Joshua Botelho, Alyssa A. Kennedy, Ralph T. Lewis, IV, Sarah Lewis, Emma Hanlon, Julia Hanlon, James Baronian, William Baronian and Hannah Baronian.
She also is survived by her cherished great-grandchild, William Warner.
Mary Ann also leaves her sisters, Irene Bergquist and Florence Spachman; she was predeceased by her brother, William McDermott.
Mary Ann was born and raised in Providence, RI and she remained a resident until moving to and becoming a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, RI 56 years ago.
In her early years, Mary Ann attended and graduated from St. Teresa School in Providence. After graduating she worked at LaSalle Academy in Providence where she respectfully and diligently worked as an administrative secretary.
Mary Ann met her husband "Bill" at a dance at Providence College where he attended and from there they were eventually married and they remained joyfully and happily married for 62 years until "Bill" died on January 18, 2021. Their bond was beautiful and their marriage was a true testament of enduring love.
Mary Ann was the heart and soul of her family and she showed that with her deep and dear love for them. She absolutely loved spending time with them.... she especially loved her great-grandchild and each and every one of her grandchildren immensely. They were the light of her life. She lit up every time she was in the presence of them.
She was a woman who always made the people around her feel accepted and comfortable and she always offered her unconditional love and support to family and friends through her service, cooking and her inviting heartwarming household gatherings.
Mary Ann will be deeply missed; and, never forgotten. Her memory will live on in all those who were blessed to have known her.
A private service for immediate family will be held to honor and celebrate her life.
