Mary Ann (Kaspar) Russell

Mary Ann (Kaspar) Russell, 85, of Newport died Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Col. William H. Russell, Jr., US Army.Born on July 10, 1930, in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Stanley and Berta (Seymour) Kaspar. Mary Ann graduated from Mt. Ida College with a degree in Science. After meeting her husband, she travelled all over the world with him during his Army service, including Panama, Italy, Korea and Thailand. She was a member of various art associations, garden clubs and volunteered at the Art Museum. She loved to paint and also worked as an interior decorator.She is survived by her children, William B. Russell of Portsmouth, RI, and Kathleen A. Russell of Newport, RI, and her two granddaughters, Kristen M. Tilley of Newport and Lauren A. Tilley of Cumberland.Her funeral services are private.Donations in her memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
