Mary B. Devine

Middletown, RI - Mary B. (Dwyer) Devine, 97, of Middletown, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Village House Nursing Home Newport, RI, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Devine. Born in Fall River, MA on March 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Catherine (McCaffrey) Dwyer. During World War II, Mary worked at the torpedo station in Newport; she also worked as the head bookkeeper for the Middletown School system until 1979. During the years prior to working at the school department, she was a devoted wife and loving mother. She loved Big Band music, dancing and had a beautiful singing voice. She is survived by her children, son Thomas F. Devine Jr. and his wife Carole of Middletown, RI, Michael J. Devine and Laura Goldstein of Portsmouth, RI, Elizabeth Devine Hughes of Newport, RI, Kathleen Forrest and her husband Peter of Tiverton, RI, and Margaret Devine and her husband Charles Machado of Newport, RI, her sisters Eileen Stevens of Connecticut , and eight grandchildren , Mary , Zachary and Matthew Devine , Sean Hughes, Sarah and Alexander Forrest, Benjamin and Julia Machado , and two great grandchildren, Madelyn and Jack Devine. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Terri Viveros, Stacey Chabot and Thomas Hughes Jr.She was the sister of the late Thomas Dwyer, James Dwyer, Johanna Hinchcliffe, Ruth Kennedy and Kathleen McMahon.Calling hours will be held on Sunday July 6, 2014 from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Monday July 7, 2014 at 8am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9am, in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
