- Mary DeMattos Barboza, 99, of 70 Harrison Ave., Newport, formerly of 64 Maple Avenue, Middletown, died Thursday, August 1, 2002 at Village House Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Manuel Jacintho Barboza. Born in Fall River, MA on April 7, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Antone and Theresa SousaDeMattos.Mrs. Barboza worked in the Women Defense Corp. During WWII, and while living in Fall River she had worked for the former Lamport Mills. From 1951-1973 she worked with her late husband in his business the Two Mile Corner Shoe Repair, then went on to work for Egans Laundry as a clerk from 1979-1992. She was a member of Portsmouth Evangelical Friends Church where she was very active in all the church activities. Mrs. Barboza was an ?elder? of the church for many years. She is survived by two sons Arnold J Barboza of Ocala, FL, and Wayne Barboza of Fall River, MA, two daughters Ruth Barboza and Norma B Anthony both of Newport, RI, her sister Belmira Meade of Fall River, MA, nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Manuel DeMattos, Antonette Ramos and Amy DeMattos. Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 5, 2002, at 1:00PM, in the Portsmouth Evangelical Friends Church, 11 Middle Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.
