Mary C. Paquin Armbrust ? A 100 Year Resident of Newport County Middletown, RI - Mary C. Paquin Armbrust, daughter of the late Frank E. and Charlotte C. Paquin was born Janaury 2, 1904 in Portsmouth and celebrated her 100th Birthday with her family and friends at a luncheon in her honor at the Newport Marriott Hotel on January 17, 2004. Mary spent her early years in Portsmouth residing at the Paquin farm on Paquins Lane with her parents and siblings, the late John Paquin, the late Margaret Paquin Glen and the late Katharine Paquin Chase. She attended Portsmouth schools before graduating from 9th grade at Mumford School in Newport in 1919. She worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in Newport before marrying Ferdinand J. Armbrust of Jamestown. They made their home in Jamestown and their daughter, Nelsine A. Eckloff of Cranston, RI was born while they lived there. Shortly after her birth they moved to 34 Sherman Street, Newport where they operated the Armbrust Plumbing, Heating and Oil Business for several years before they relocated the business to 105 West Main Road, Middletown. While living at Sherman Street, their son, Raymond P. Armbrust of San Diego, CA was born. They lived at this address for many years before moving to 103 Gibbs Avenue, Newport. In 1962 she returned to work as a telephone operator at Newport Hospital and retired in 1976. Since 1992 she has been a resident of Middletown, first at Blenheim and then at Grand Islander since 1998. Mary is an 85 year member of the First Presbyterian Church, Newport. Through the years she was an active member of the Womens Auxiliary and in charge of the Mens Club suppers. She was also a member of the Forte-Nightly Couples Group that met every other week for hymn sings; quite often at the Armbrust residence where there was a piano. In more recent years she was an active member of the Cancer Dressing Sewing Group that still meets weekly at the church. Besides her two children she has four grandchildren, Bryan R. Armbrust of St. Leon-Rot, Germany, Jon M. Armbrust of Bonita, CA, Roy A. Eckloff Jr. of Saunderstown, RI and Cathy E. Solina of Brockton, MA, five great grandchildren, Tina M. Atkins of Sherwood, AR, Keith D. Armbrust of North Little Rock, AR, Bryan Russell-Remington Armbrust of St. Leon-Rot, Germany, Jon M. Armbrust Jr. of Johnstown, CO, Michael R. Armbrust of Palmer Lake, CO and three great-great grandchildren, Kelly Armbrust and Sean Armbrust of Palmer Lake, CO and Madelyn Atkins of Sherwood, AR.Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 19, 2004, at 2:00PM, in the Hambly Funeral Home Brick House, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Portsmouth. Donations may be made to the Mary Armbrust Memorial Fund, C/O First Presbyterian Church, Broadway And Everett, Newport, RI 02840.
