Portsmouth, RI - Mary C. Leander Paz, 101, of 2090 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of 1332 East Main Road, Portsmouth, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at the home of her daughter.She was the wife of the late Manuel R. Paz. Born in Middletown, RI, on December 2, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Antone and Recada Soeira Leander.Mrs. Paz grew up in Middletown and moved to Portsmouth in 1952. She had worked at a local Hotel in Newport and for the former Hillside Nursing Home in Middletown. She was a faithful communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth. Mrs. Paz enjoyed spending her time by taking care of her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter M. Genevieve Souza of Portsmouth, RI, a brother Manuel L. Leander of Middletown, RI, a sister Albertina Riter of Newport, RI, three grandchildren Janet Catalan, Brenda Escobar, and Manuel C. Paz, six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son the late Manuel J. Paz, her three brothers Joseph, Antone, and William Leander and two sisters, Julia H. Leander and Louise B. Roderiques.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery, Brown?s Lane, Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2006, from 3-7 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Wagon Fund, P.O. Box 806, Portsmouth, RI, 02871.
