MIDDLETOWN, RI, Mary DeMello Chantre, 84, of 283 Forest Avenue, Middletown, RI, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Manuel O. Chantre.Born in New Bedford, MA, on December 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anne Cabral DeMello.Mrs. Chantre was a librarian from 1968 to 1974 at Elmhurst Academy, from 1974 to 1980 at the Portsmouth Abbey School, and from 1980 to 1996 at Salve Regina College. Prior to being a librarian she worked at the US Naval Commissary from 1964 to 1968. Mary was a Communicant of St. Lucys Church. She was a former member of ?The Cenacle Group? of Middletown, and a member of the Legion of Mary at the former U.S. Naval ?Chapel By The Sea? Hospital.She is survived by her son Anthony M. Chantre of Jacksonville, FL, her granddaughters Sharon Chantre of Jacksonville, FL, and Captain Mary Margaret Chantre, USA, stationed in Atlanta, GA, her great grandson Christopher Chantre of Jacksonville, FL, and a great granddaughter Sondria Chantre of Atlanta, GA, and several nieces and nephews.She was the mother of the late James Chantre and the sister of the late Anthony DeMello Jr. and Lawrence DeMello. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2205, at 8:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM, in St. Lucy?s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
