Newport, RI - Mary D. Mello Clarke, 88, of 333 Green End Avenue, Middletown, formerly of 10 Cross Street, Newport, RI, died Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Francis A. Clarke. Born in Portsmouth, RI on April 6, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Amelia Gracia Mello.Mrs. Clarke was a communicant of St. Josephs Church. She is survived by her children Vincent P. Clarke of Middletown, RI, Francis A. Clarke of Newport, RI, William A. Clarke of Portsmouth, RI, Thomas M. Clarke of Hope Valley, RI, Anna Coleman of Lawton, OK, Marion Aquiar of Newport, RI, Mary Bona of Middletown, RI, Barbara Waring of Portsmouth, RI, and Stephanie Daniels of Bluffton, SC, her sister Emily Lacerda of Portsmouth, RI, thirty grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son Kenneth G. Clarke and her brothers Anthony Mello, and Manuel Mello and her sisters Agnes Marquis, Dorothy Rego and Philomena Dorato.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2007, at 9:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, from 5-7pm, in the funeral home.
