Newport, - Mary ?gigi? Hammett Dias, 91, of Newport, died Sunday, March 21, 2004 at home. She was the wife of the late Antonio V. Dias. Born in Newport, RI on Nov. 21, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Whilhemina Hammett. Mrs. Dias was a communicant of St. Josephs Church where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She was also a member of the Rhode Island Cape Verdean Federation Association, the Rhode Island Cape Verdean Association and the Portsmouth Multi-purpose Senior Center.Mrs. Dias loved the opera and travelling with her daughters throughout the United States and Europe and visiting many ports while cruising.She worked in private service for various Newport families for more than 70 years before retiring. She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Jones of Roxbury, MA, and Toni D. Green of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Keith Jones, Jaimi Jones and Kevin Jones; Four Great Grandchildren, and a multitude of friends. Her funeral will be held Thursday, Mar. 25, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in St. Josephs Church, Broadway And Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
