Tiverton, RI - Mary E Dixon, 62, of Tiverton, RI, died after a lengthy battle with cancer on March 28, 2011. She was a loving mother, dedicated to her family, and helping others.She was the wife of Robert A. Dixon. Born in Providence, RI on October 7, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Irene Murray McCarthy.Mrs. Dixon graduated from St. Teresa School in Providence, RI in 1966, and during high school she was a candy striper volunteer at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Providence. Upon graduating high school, she went on to nursing school at Roger Williams Hospital?s School of Nursing, graduating in 1969.She worked at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence, RI and the former Union Hospital in Fall River, MA as a registered nurse until leaving to support her husband, whom was in the U.S. Coast Guard that was being stationed in Hawaii. She lived in various parts of the United States until her husband retired and started his own business. Mrs. Dixon worked with her husband running the office of his business for many years.Mrs. Dixon was a communicant of St Christophers Church in Tiverton, where she taught CCD classes for the church. She assisted the elderly in the neighborhood utilizing her skills as a registered nurse. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. All who knew her will miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband Robert Dixon of Tiverton, RI , her son Christopher Dixon of Tiverton, RI, her daughter Jennifer Leddy and her husband Bob of Johnston, RI, her brothers Michael McCarthy of Hope Valley, RI and Kevin McCarthy of Cranston, RI, her sister Sheila Janega of Reston, VA and her grandchildren Matthew and Lorelai Leddy of Johnston, RI. She is also survived by her aunt Kathleen McCarthy of Levittown, NY as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011, from 4-7pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Her funeral will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011, at 9:00AM, from the Connor?s Funeral Home 55 W. Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM, in St. Christophers Church, 1584 Main Road, Tiverton.
