Mary E. Silvia

Mary E. Silvia, 91, of 20 Paradise Brook Farm Road Middletown, formerly of Kay Boulevard, Middletown, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Briar Cliff Manor Johnston, RI.She was the wife of the late Manuel E. Silvia. Born in Middletown, RI on August 5, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Delphine Moitoza Furtado. In 1926, she was active in the group that established and built Jesus Saviour Church in Newport. She was also a founder of the Holy Ghost Feast at Jesus Saviour church and hosted the Church?s first ?dominga? at her home in 1956. Mrs. Silvia was a past president and life member of the Rosary Sodality of Jesus Saviour Church and a charter member of the Portuguese American Womens Civic League of Newport and the Vasco da Gama Holy Ghost Society. She is survived by three daughters Mary C. Souza of Middletown, RI, Del E. Driscoll of Coventry, RI, and Ann Marie Silvia of Middletown, RI, eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.She was the sister of the late Joseph Furtado, Manuel Furtado, Delphine Dutra, and Margaret Moore. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2002 at 9:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
